I had wanted to do a Day of the Dead image for a little while… so I decided to. This was a very complex image, but also a fun one. They can be arduous and time-consuming, but I like projects that have a lot of different elements to them. The border was one of those things, which surprisingly, didn’t take that long (a few hours, maybe).

One of the things I like about Day of the Dead is the bright colors, since those have always been an aspect of my work. However, my original intention was for this to be a straight black-and-white piece, but once I got into it, I realized the great visual opportunities for color.

Overall I was very pleased with how it turned out. It’s a very visually dense image, with lots of detail and places to draw the eye to. For a more in-depth look, read the write-up on my website.
